Interesting in exchanging info with anyone interested in the following families from Copiah, Jefferson and surrounding counties in southwest Mississippi. BELL, BERRY, CAMMACK, EMANUEL, GRIFFING, HAY(E)S, McLEMORE, McLENDON, SHIVERS.
My 3rd great grandfather GEORGE NELSON PARKS of Claiborne Co., MS married MARY ANN BROWN in Nov 1832. A land conveyance record in Concordia Parish, LA dated in Jan 1834 provides evidence that Mary Ann's father was ROLAND BROWN. Roland must have died in 1822, leaving a minor son GEORGE BROWN for whom George Nelson Parks was
acting as guardian. I have found Roland in the 1810 census of Concordia Parish, but not in the 1820 or 1830 census. The land record states that Roland Brown's land was "about one mile above Rodney" (Jefferson Co., MS). Although across the Mississippi River, Rodney was no doubt the nearest community in which the Brown family could conduct business, have a social life, or attend church. Mary Ann Brown died about 1841-43 in Washington Co., MS George Nelson Parks married second MRS. SUSAN E. TOMPKINS, the widow of George E. Tompkins. I believe that Susan E. may have been the sister of Mary Ann. Does anyone have additional information on this BROWN family that they would be willing to share?
