January 19, 2007 - Began cleanup of
marriage database - it is now much faster
loading and cleaner looking. Posted a photo of the Fayette Academy Class
of 193? and a photo of the Fayette
Academy - both contributed by Dr. Walter Dawkins. Also began
transcribing returns for various years of the Masonic Records - contributed by

Excerpts from the Slave Petitions to the Mississippi
Legislature - transcribed and contributed by Janice Rice Stevens. The
records deal mostly with emancipations. A real treasure trove for
African-American Researchers!
June 8, 2006 - Began a page for
Woodlawn Plantation - Beginning to receive a lot of information on this
plantation, one of the oldest in the county. Watch for additions to this
page! First item is the Slave Narrative of Peter Brown,
born at Woodlawn in 1852.

Civil War Letters from John Cato to his wife, Martha Newman Cato
contributed by Linda Durr Rudd. I must apologize to Linda for the delay
in getting these up she submitted them some time ago and they just got lost in
the shuffle of my absent-minded brain!

Census of the Territory for Jefferson County
March 6, 2006 - Changed the
picture on the index page to some photos of Rodney and asked for all
visitors to contact the Supervisors and the MDAH Department of Historic
Preservation to help us get the road to Rodney more accessible and easier to
find! Please help us make one of the oldest towns in MS accessible to
the public!
February 27, 2006 - Added
Freedman Savings & Trust Company 1865-1874 Register of signatures of
depositors born in Jefferson County. These records are available on
Microfilm through your Local Family History Center from the main library in
Salt Lake City, Utah. If you find a relative, let me know and I will look up
the record and tell you all the information on the card. This is truly one of
the great resources for African-American researchers. Contributed by Ann Allen
Geoghegan.
January 13, 2006 - Added
Petition of Andrew Barland to the Mississippi General Assembly
circa, 1824, found by Sue B. Moore and used with permission of the University
of North Carolina. The original is in the Mississippi Department of Archives
and History in Jackson.
November 10, 2005 - Added the long awaited research
paper by Andy McMillion on the Hunt Family of
Jefferson County. The Hunts were some of the earliest residents of
the area, arriving when we were still Pickering County. It is a long
read but an excellent one! Many thanks Andy!

Letter from Mr. John Ker to the Mississippi
State Legislature regarding the wills of Captain Isaac Ross and his daughter
Mrs. M. A. Reed - December 15, 1841. This concerned the transportation of his
slaves to the Liberian Colony by Captain Ross and his daughter. Very
interesting reading!
April 20, 2004 - Added a wonderful
photograph of some Rodney Natives who attended
the Rodney Presbyterian Church. The photo originally appeared in the
Jackson Clarion Ledger but unfortunately we don't know the date. If
anyone knows when this wonderful photo was taken please let
me know!
